Urgent Fundraising for Stas Mihailov's Rehabilitation
About this project
We are commencing a new fundraising campaign for the rehabilitation of 4-year old Stas Mihailov from Ukraine. The rehabilitation will take place at the Olinek Clinic in Poland and is scheduled for July 2018.
Everyone in the family was excited about the arrival of a new baby, particularly the oldest daughter, Anya. Her mother has previously had a miscarriage, so this child was very much anticipated. This time, the pregnancy was carefully monitored but something went wrong during labour. Little Stas was born with breathing difficulties and spent a whole month at the neonatal intensive care unit followed by a hospitalisation with a diagnosis of spastic quadriplegia and epilepsy. At the age of one year, Stas was formally diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
Stas is nevertheless fortunate to have a large and very caring family. He is dearly loved and supported not only by his parents but also by his older brother and sister. For Anya, it was very traumatic to learn about her little brother’s disorder. For a long time she felt depressed and became unusually reserved. However, she found resilience to overcome this trauma. With the tears in her eyes, the mother acknowledges how difficult it would have been without Anya’s help. Not only has she been spending enormous amount of time caring for Stas, but Anya has also taken the initiative of running an online fundraising group to raise funds for Stas’ needs, juggling these time consuming duties with schooling and sporting activities.
Despite the severe motor dysfunction, Stas has intact intelligence. He understands speech, enjoys outdoor outings, likes playing with toys and watching cartoons. Yet, the little one is still unable to sit independently, stand or walk without support. To develop these skills, Stas requires continuous rehabilitation. Unfortunately, the rehabilitation programs available in Ukraine provide very limited benefits, hence, the decision has been made to access high quality intensive intervention at the specialised Olinek clinic in Poland.
The earliest available course is scheduled for the 16th of July 2018. We need to raise AUD3000. There is not a lot of time left, but we are very hopeful that you will be genuinely touched by this beautiful family’s call for help and will support the cause.
You can help Stas by making a donation with a reference “Stas”.
